Right Keys but WRONG door - Taken From Naamnet Book

Daas and a gursikh were standing in the gurudwara langar hall when a young sikh came and asked for the keys to the supplies store. The supplies store is one of the rooms located on the outside of the gurudrawa building. Daas fished out the keys and gave it to the young sikh. He ran off and came back a few minutes later saying, "This is not the right key." Daas was surprised since that sure looked like the right key. But anyhow, daas fished out another bunch of keys and told the young sikh to try those. He ran off and came back with the same answer. The gursikh who was with me is a big time sevadar and he usually opens and closes the supplies store. So daas asked him for the right key. He took a look and selected a key from the first bunch and told the young sikh, "This is the right one for sure. Try to push the door inwards when turning the key. Sometimes it needs quite a bit of strength to open the supplies door." After several minutes, the young sikh came back, all puffed and panting, and said, "No, that was not the right key." The gursikh decided to investigate. He came back smiling. Daas asked him, "What happened?" He replied, "Oh, nothing. The kid was trying the wrong door!" Now, the question is - "What has this story got to do with Naam?" Well the MORAL could be : We mis-apply HukamNamas. Guru Granth Sahib ji gives us a beautfull Hukam to apply to our life. It's like Guru ji giving us the key, but instead of applying it to the Dasam Duar (Tenth Door) inside our mind, we strip it apart looking for hidden messages about solving our current problem.

My friend (has turban, trims beard, drinks, into sikhi a bit) said he went to India but was unable to reach Harmandir Sahib He said, the family took HukamNama before setting off on the journey and Guru Sahib said 'RamDas Sarovar naathe..' (BathingThe Lake Of Ram Das, all sins are removed). They all took it as a sign they would reach that place. But didn't for some reason. So he was dissapointed with Hukam Nama not coming true. FOOLISH THINKING!!! He took 3 words out of it (Ram Das Sarovar) , totally ignored the rest of Guru's key instructions, and mis-applied it to his worldy objectives, when Guru ji was talking about opening spiritual doors.

Full hukam nama was:

(Ang 625)
SORAT'H, FIFTH MEHL, THIRD HOUSE, DU-PADAS: ONE UNIVERSAL CREATOR GOD. BY THE GRACE OF THE TRUE GURU: Bathing in the nectar tank of Ram Das, the residues of all sins are erased. One becomes immaculately pure, taking this cleansing bath. The Perfect Guru has be stowed this gift. ¦¦ 1 ¦¦ God has blessed all with peace and pleasure. Everything is safe and sound, as we contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ¦¦ Pause ¦¦ In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, filth is washed off. The Supreme Lord God has become our friend and helper. Nanak meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. He has found God, the Primal Being. ¦¦ 2 ¦¦ 1 ¦¦ 65 ¦¦ (Gurbani CD) If he listened to Guru Sahib a bit more carefully, he would have observed

a) Ram Das Sarovar is literally the Tank of God's Servants i.e the Sadh-Sangat.
b) meditate on the Guru's word
c) meditate on the Lord's Name.
So if he was interested in applying this KEY to the Tenth Door then he would go to Sadh Sangat, understand Kirtan and Naam Jaap, but like most of us we apply to our worldly doors and try to extract meaning that just aren't there. Guru Granth Sahib jee gives us the key of the Sacred Word to open spiritual doors, but we only care about opening worldly doors..

Everybody want to raid the barn
Who yuh a guh blame it on
When is a next man yuh a depend pon
Well yuh wrong
Nobody wanna plant the corn
Everybody want to raid the barn

So many goals and thoughts and potholes I pass everyday

Instead dem want to ride upon dem bredda back
No tears or cares if him even did stop or drop

I feel please, when a tek a little ease
From a long hard day of work
A sense of achieving, to know I'm contributing
Doing my part, oooowi dis is my comfort
I know there is a reward for every trying man
Who walk this land with an intention
To do good for himself and everyman
Just a meditation

Well I've been up from early this morning

Never see no one to strengthen me on mi journey
Now mi mek a change di whole a dem waan fi fren mi

The Lord's Name is His Form

The Lord's Name in his form, his form in his Name-
His Name is not apart from his form.
The formless One has taken the form of the Name
And Within Namdev he has made his abode.
Other than the Name there is no cure for worldly ills-

Ignorant are they who claim other remedies.
The Lord's Name is absolute, The Lord's Name is supreme.
Only true and loving devotees realise this, O Nama.

One who has received a kick from the Lord God - where can he place his foot?

Spread his LOVE by SIMRAN ..Erase the duality, hatred and harm....

O Sikh Young men! Rise and fill yourselves with this glory. It makes you noble, bold and free,self-drunk,selfless,flowerlike,sun-like.It Sweetens you and your sweetness sweetens all life around you.At your Sight, the lamb and the tiger must drink at the same pool. Perpetual spring must roll in you. You shall be the moral influence of radiating peace, good-will, friendship, fellowship ,life, vigour, vitality,in short, sprituality. You shall live in perpetual blossom, reconciled to the sorrow of life in a thousand new ways everyday. Be Ye a revelation to the world of man, of the gods that live in your hearts. Seekers after God retire to the woods. Show them they need not go to the woods, for the Guru made you the woods. Seeing you, you yourself, the very peace of woods, the freshness of the little rivulets chiming through them should come to all. Your long tresses shall provide the shade of the woods and their mystery.

This weekend was totally amazing.I realised how lucky I am to have sangat of some gurmukhs. On the ride back from the Kingston Program I was talking to an awesome chardikala Gursikh Uncle. He shared something with me regarding
ekta and the main ingredients of ekta. I will try to write it as I remember but I must tell you, its one of those things that you had to be there to get the love and concern of this Gursikh Piara. And Please forgive me because I know I won't be able to
put it over as Uncle Ji did.

He was reading an excerpt from Kalgidar Chamatkar and as he was reading it he explained to me in English .

There was a diwaan held in the presence of Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj. So the Jathedar Singh got up to make an announcement. He told the Singhs/Kaurs present in the diwaan that we are so lucky to be here together as one.By the Guru's grace, we all who came from different caste and creeds was made one by Pitaji. We are ONE with ONE goal which is to serve the Guru. Then he went on to say that..today if theres anyone who holds any grudge towards any brother
or sister in the diwaan please come forward and ask them for their love. Come in front and call it a truce. It is very hard if we as Sikhs of the Guru have enmity towards each other. The whole diwaan was quiet and everyone was looking around to see if anyone would come forward, then one Singh gets up and says " I have no grudge against anyone but now that you have mentioned it, I remembered that while taking out water from the well, me and a fellow Singh got into an argument and this Singh is also present in the diwaan and I would like to beg him for
forgiveness and love." The singh then comes up and they both hugged and all past differences were forgotten. More Singhs came forward and differences were settled. Guru Sahib seeing this happily said, "Dhan Sikhi, Dhan Sikhi, Dhan Sikhi."

Which father wants to see his children fighting and holding grudges against each other ?

Forgive me for not doing justice to this. Tommorrow I will add the other part ...that has to do with the main ingredients of ekta.

...I found this on my cousins computer..don't know who wrote it..

The salt from the tears overflowing your eyes dear one, Stings me.
I never wanted to leave you alone to fight.
Let not the hot irons that burnt my flesh burn your spirit
Let not the blood I shed flow to the river formed by the blood of Thousands that will follow if you strength falters
Let not your kirpan(sword) leave your side
Let not your kes (hair) be cut
Let not the beautiful Naam (name of God) leave you
Do not focus on where I have gone, or where I shall go
Focus on strength.
Focus on the name….Waheguru

Unprinted works of Professor Puran Singh

Thanks to my bro for sending this to me .These past days I've been reading stuff by Professor Puran Singh Ji. So far most of his works that I read gave my thoughts a shake and opened my eyes to things I couldn''t grasp. Enjoy reading.

Birth of a Star

A new-comer, fresh from the white eternity into the world, the eyes of the Khalsa glow with the vision of the Invisible. The whispering millions on the other side of the River of Life mingle their voices and the Khalsa is truly one in many. On the bed of thorns, he lies as if on roses. What matters for him is not the husk or the shell, but the seed or the kernel within. The Khalsa looks at the world from a supreme height, blessing all, helping all, loving all. He has found the common Centre of Life and enshrined God in the temple of his heart.
This world with all its gay gardens is to the Khalsa but a camping ground. He holds the present life to be but a journey and an interlude. Death has no sting for him, nor extinction any terror. If a child is born, he is a "Guru's soldier come," if he dies, it is a "Guru's soldier gone." The Khalsa sees life as a whole and believes all is good, nothing is amiss. It is, therefore, that when he prays, he utters himself in accents of steel, flint, fire and lightning that move the heavens with him.
The tent of the Khalsa is a temple. The Khalsa is the Dharamshala for all. He gives a drink, and a hymn of the Guru to all who pass by. He has evolved a language whose flaming words reflect the inner glory of national realization, and that of joy which is supreme in its conquest over the sorrows of the world. In fact, the idiom of the Khalsa is as opulent and vast as the amplitude of his soul.

An email I got from Bhai Mehtab Singh Ji :

"Portrait of a Friend"

I can't give solutions to all of life's problems, doubts,
or fears. But I can listen to you, and together we will
search for answers.

I can't change your past with all it's heartache and pain,
nor the future with its untold stories.
But I can be there now when you need me to care.

I can't keep your feet from stumbling.
I can only offer my hand that you may grasp it and not fall.

Your joys, triumphs, successes, and happiness are not mine;
Yet I can share in your laughter.

Your decisions in life are not mine to make, nor to judge;
I can only support you, encourage you,
and help you when you ask.

I can't prevent you from falling away from friendship,
from your values, from me.
I can only pray for you, talk to you and wait for you.

I can't give you boundaries which I have determined for you,
But I can give you the room to change, room to grow,
room to be yourself.

I can't keep your heart from breaking and hurting,
But I can cry with you and help you pick up the pieces
and put them back in place.

I can't tell you who you are.
I can only love you and be your friend.
I promise to try to do all of these things
and be the best friend I can be from now on!

Real Khalsa

Bhai Nand Lal ji says 'Khalsa soi jo kareh nit jang'...the Khalsa is the one who fights daily. Even at Guru Sahib's time it was impossible to have been fighting the Moghuls and Hill Rajas every single day. But our great heros and heroines who fought on the battle field then, and those who fight today are REAL Khalsa.

There are other REAL Khalsa too, but they fight on different battlefields. Like the old Bibi ji who needs a zimmerframe to walk, needs thick lenses to see, needs false teeth to eat...for her the daily battle is to get to the Gurdwara and fall at SatGuru ji's feet.

Another REAL Khalsa is the 30 year old woman dying with cancer, fighting it day in day out so that her 2 young sons can have their mother. She fights with Vaahi-guroo on her tongue and pain in every part of her body.

Another REAL Khalsa is to grow up surrounded by a white culture and to maintain Guru Gobind Singh ji's form, and to fight for the rights of other Sikh children against racism and abuse. Fighting with Vaahi-guroo on their tongue. The list of everday REAL Khalsa is endless, everyone doing the duty given to them by Guru Sahib.

And if Vaahi-guroo ji wanted the old woman and the mother's souls to have been destined for a young warriors body in the killing fields then they would have fought with the same Khalsa spirit.

Not everyone can go and die on a killing field. But wherever Guru Sahib has given us our duty we must do it as REAL Khalsa. And the first and foremost daily battle that Bhai Nand Lal ji talks about is with the 5 enemies inside us.

The True Bairaag (Spritual Longing) - taken from 'In Search of The True Guru "- Bhai Rama Singh

If a family member departs then, quite naturally, the memory of that person makes one very sad.
The memory of the departed person is ever present at home when one is moving about thinking that the departed person used to sit or move around here and there, and all the family was together. If a person is in love with another, then the more the closeness the greater the attachment.

I met a young man at Singapore. He said to me, "Babaji I am very much struck by Bairaag."Thinking of Spiritual Bairaag,I was pleased to hear this and said, "You are the most fortunate. It is only with good fortune that one feels that way." He replied,"No Babaji, I have fallen in love with a girl. I think of her all the time . I do not like anything else. I cannot live without seeing her. She Has Left me. She has broken her engagement with me and said our paths are different. I cannot live without her, please pray for me. " I said, "If you have a desire to look for Waheguru, then I shall certainly pray for you. But I do not pray for worldly desires." I asked him to devel true affection with Waheguru who will help and protect in the end.

So Singhs and Kaurs make sure you don't get the wrong meaning of Bairaag. It's a very rocky road out there remember to keep your focus on Guru Sahib. Here's a shabd with so much Bairaag written by My pyare SATGUROOO JI.

Maajh, Fifth Mehl, Chau-Padas, First House:
My mind longs for the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan.
It cries out like the thirsty song-bird.
My thirst is not quenched, and I can find no peace, without the Blessed Vision of the Beloved Saint. ||1||
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to the Blessed Vision of the Beloved Saint Guru. ||1||Pause||
Your Face is so Beautiful, and the Sound of Your Words imparts intuitive wisdom.
It is so long since this rainbird has had even a glimpse of water.
Blessed is that land where You dwell, O my Friend and Intimate Divine Guru. ||2||
I am a sacrifice, I am forever a sacrifice, to my Friend and Intimate Divine Guru. ||1||Pause||
When I could not be with You for just one moment, the Dark Age of Kali Yuga dawned for me.
When will I meet You, O my Beloved Lord?
I cannot endure the night, and sleep does not come, without the Sight of the Beloved Guru's Court. ||3||
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to that True Court of the Beloved Guru. ||1||Pause||
By good fortune, I have met the Saint Guru.
I have found the Immortal Lord within the home of my own self.
I will now serve You forever, and I shall never be separated from You, even for an instant. Servant Nanak is Your slave, O Beloved Master. ||4||
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice; servant Nanak is Your slave, Lord. ||Pause||1||8||

Sweet Naam

The Naam of God is sweet to me says Guru Arjun Dev Jee in Sukhmanee Sahib...'Naam Prabhoo ka laga meeta'. Like when you go to someone's house and you drink the sweet tea, then take a bite of the even sweeter jelabee, then sipping the tea again you think - 'this is tasteless in comparison.'

Bhai Jasvir Singh Jee Khanaa vale gave the above example and continued, we think pleasures of the world are sweet. We love our spouse, our children, we get pleasure from food and drink, but once we have tasted Sweet Naam then all these worldy pleasures become plain in comparison.

The thing with saying 'Vaahi-guroo Vaahi-guroo' again and again is that it is tasteless at first says Bhai Gurdas Jee, like licking a rock. Wereas in the amusement park of the world, the glittering attractions are instantly pleasing to the mind. Pop music wants to make us dance as soon as it touches our eardrum, our mouth waters as soon as we smell our favourite food, our heart leaps at just the thought of that special someone. But saying 'Vaahi-guroo Vaahi-guroo' at amritvela just puts us to sleep. The mind wrestles with you 'Go to sleep man! This is a waste of time...no miracles are happening, I cant see no light nor hear the celestial music....just go to sleep man.'

But that's what happens in the first few years, after spending alot of time riding on the glittering attractions, they become boring. That special someone no longer gives you a buzz everytime you see their face, your favourite food just taste average nowadays, that favourite song of yours is getting to sound repetitive....everything's boring. But the one who didn't listen to the mind and carried on saying 'Vaahi-guroo Vaahi-guroo' every amritvela without fail has a different story to tell. 'Vaahi-guroo Vaahi-guroo' gets more and more addictive as you say it, 'Vaahi-guroo Vaahi-guroo' calms the mind down, picks it up out of depression and makes it fly like a bird. 'Vaahi-guroo Vaahi-guroo' wraps you up in an invisible blanket of love and humility.......one day 'Vaahi-guroo Vaahi-guroo' showers you in God's Love and Light....one day 'Vaahi-guroo Vaahi-guroo' makes you feel like your spread out across the whole of creation tuned into everything...and one day 'Vaahi-guroo Vaahi-guroo' tastes like sweet amrit on your tongue...amrit naam....'Naam Prabhoo ka laga meeta' and everything else seems tasteless in comparison.

We are not the first ones to walk on the 'Vaahi-guroo Vaahi-guroo' path, nor are we the last. All we have to do is have faith that it WORKS! It worked for Bhai Lehna Jee, Bhai Amaroo Jee, Bhai Jetha Jee and it worked for Guru Arjun Dev Jee as he sat on the hot plate with burning sand pouring over his blistered shoulders. Without any fear or hate, without any pain or sorrow Guru Arjun Dev Jee's state of mind was 'Tera keea meeta lagey. Har Naam Padarth Nanak Mangey'....Your Will is sweet, Nanak asks for the gift of Naam.

God's Will is Sweet

God's Word is Sweet

God's Naam is Sweet

The one who has these residing in their heart is also sweet. Sweet and gentle in the way s/he speaks, sweet and beautiful to all of God's Creation.

Dhan Guru Arjun Dev Jee....The King of Martyrs.

The Vow

I have taken the vow of life to live for Him,
I have taken the vow of death for Him,
But all my vows are the rambling notes
of the songs of His pleasure,
that know not their own aims,
nor their fulfillment.

I do what He does when He comes into me
to posses me when His call comes,

I wash my hands,
snapping all ties with the sudden stroke
of the stroke of the Sword of Death.

I have taken the vow of Love
and I wait for the roadside for Him,
with tears in my eyes

I break all my vows when He comes to me,
for the joy of meeting Him takes me
out of myself!
